Even There Shall Thy Hand Lead Me ~ Self-Portrait // February

There was no way I was going to miss doing February’s self-portrait on the BEACH while in South Africa earlier this month; so on a windy day my friend Jerusala and I went to the beach in hopes that I would be able to create the vision I had in my mind for this month’s portrait. This portrait was HARD to get!! It was precarious making my way out to the rocks (scrambling to make it before a wave might come and get my dress wet, not to mention a dress with a train gets in the way just a little when climbing over rocks in the ocean.) When I finally made it out to the rocks, I found that my phone/remote wasn’t connecting with my camera so I made my way back to shore, brought the tripod a bit closer, tested distances right on the beach and headed back out to try again! Long story short, the remote and camera had quite a struggle staying connected and after an hour of trying we had to leave and I only had 9 shots total! I was so nervous to look at the photos because I was afraid there would be nothing worth keeping, but I was pleasantly surprised with 3 of the photos and ended up choosing this one as my favorite!! (Jerusala took some behind the scenes photos with her camera that are amusing and show my struggles to get the shot. 😉 I’m saving those for a post filled with behind the scenes shots from my monthly self-portraits.) If you would like to read a little more about exactly what this self-portrait challenge is, check out January’s Self-Portrait post. 🙂

Fine Art Self-Portrait – Month II of XII:

“If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.” – Psalm 139:9-10

P.S. This photo is not a composite image (multiple images combined). I am kind of a stickler for “if that wasn’t the true setting/time/place, don’t try to make it look like it was by cheating.” I really, truly was standing out on those rocks, the wind was blowing my dress, and I snapped the photo with my remote! 🙂
